Types of Financial Aid

Learn about all the financial aid options available to help you pay for college.

So you've figured out that you need some help paying for college. You're not alone. Many students set out to get a higher education believing they won't need financial aid, only to find out later that they really do need some financial assistance

Maybe your family situation has changed and you need to get help somewhere else. Maybe it just costs more than you thought it would. Maybe you want to transfer to a different school and the new one will be more expensive. Whatever the reason, it's not too late to look into financial aid.

Financial aid comes in many forms and amounts. Some is based on need, some on academic merit, and some on other skills. Don't be fooled into thinking you aren't eligible for assistance. Just about everyone qualifies for some kind of financial aid.

So go ahead. Apply for all the aid you want and need. Start by completing and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You've got a lot to lose if you don't!

Ask the financial aid office at your college or university for information on financial aid programs, application procedures and forms, deadlines, and awarding policies. Talk to a financial aid counselor if you have problems or unusual circumstances. They can help you design financial aid plans to meet your needs and qualifications.
